On a sun-drenched January day, an estimated 2000 Pro-life Protestants, Catholics and others gathered at the Colorado State Capitol to remember and honor the many millions of tiny victims of the horrific Supreme Court Roe v Wade decision of 1973.
Colorado Right to Life sponsored the annual March for Life and organizers spoke of their hope and desire to never have to hold another march or event in commemoration of legalized child killing in America. “Just as slavery and the Holocaust dehumanized entire classes of people, abortion does the same. We want it to end,” spoke the CRTL directors.
State Sen. Owen Hill, R-Colorado Springs, addressed the crowd with a life-affirming message, followed by the exhorting and encouraging words of Pastor Don Veazey of Tri-Town Baptist Church in Frederick. Pastor Veazey spoke of the evil of abortion but offered hope through the Gospel message of Jesus Christ to bring an end to this injustice. “Every person is created in the image and likeness of God and is deserving of the God-given right to life,” he proclaimed.
Members of the Abolitionist Society of Denver and of Colorado Springs were present and displayed a dozen large signs with hard-hitting messages. The Abolish Human Abortion affiliates were welcomed by CRTL as they seek to preach the Gospel and engage the culture by offering truth, undermining misinformation and awakening the apathetic. They offer assistance to those seeking abortion and those who have been hurt by abortion.
Finally, co-sponsor of Amendment 67, Heather Surovik, closed the event as she told her heart-wrenching story of her baby boy, Brady, who, when only days from being born, was killed by a repeat offender drunk driver. In November, Colorado voters will have the opportunity to be a voice for Brady and for so many other tiny, innocent victims of crime, by voting Yes on 67. A yes vote will finally offer protection by law to pregnant mothers and their unborn children from criminal offenses and negligent and wrongful acts by changing the Colorado Criminal Code and Wrongful Death Act.
The crowd dispersed under still sunny skies as they made their way with signs and banners to the 16th Street Mall to march in unity against the great injustice of abortion.
Colorado Right to Life seeks not to restrict, regulate or reduce. Abortion is murder; we seek to end it.
