Out-of-touch anti-abortion Republican agenda is hurting the chances of potential GOP candidates

Dear Editor,

The idea of a common-sense, real Republican taking on social extremist state Sen. Dave Schultheis is a breath of fresh air to me and many other active Colorado Republicans who are tired of the fundamentalist chokehold on our state Party.

Schultheis is the same state senator who voted against medical treatment for infants born with HIV saying, “What I’m hoping is that, yes, that person may have AIDS, have it seriously as a baby and when they grow up, but the mother will begin to feel guilt as a result of that.”

This kind of out-of-touch agenda hurts the Republican Party.

I am happy to see that other Republicans not only agree, but are taking action to actively challenge extremists like Schultheis. As the chair of the Republican Majority for Choice Colorado.

I look forward to finding out more about Tom McDowell as he mounts a campaign based on the real Republican values of fiscal conservatism and smaller government.

These are the values the GOP must return to if it would ever like to obtain the majority status in Colorado again.
