Coalition rallies to defeat personhood amendment

A broad-based coalition opposing Amendment 67 kicked off its statewide campaign this week, hopng that Colorado voters will once again defeat the controversial ballot measure.

Opponents of the amendment view it as another attempt to ban all abortions in Colorado, including in cases of rape and incest and when the health of a woman is at risk.

An enthusiastic audience turned out Oct. 24 to see Tom Tancredo in his repeat starring role of “Gubernatorial Candidate” in the recently-released rendition of Much Ado About Nuthin’ which is playing in Colorado for the next 53 weeks.

DelGrosso tapped as new Minority Leader in House

Rep. Brian DelGrosso, R-Loveland, was elected by acclamation Thursday morning as the House Republican Minority Leader, succeeding Rep. Mark Waller who resigned his leadership post earlier this month so he can run for attorney general.

“I am both humbled and honored that my colleagues have entrusted me with this new role,” said DelGrosso afterwards.

Weld County Dems appoint Young to legislature

Democrats in Weld County selected Dave Young, a former Greeley school teacher and president of the county teacher’s union in the 1980s, as the new state representative in HD 50, which encompasses eastern Greeley, Garden City and the City of Evans. He replaces former Democratic state Rep. Jim Riesberg, who resigned the seat in late June after being appointed by Gov. John Hickenlooper as the state’s commissioner of insurance.
