LETTER: Fringe concerns are fraying

Dear Editor,

Jan Herron’s letter to the editor in the June 27 issue was so far out in right field I thought momentarily I was reading The Onion.

I agree that Colorado women are smart and issues oriented, and polls indeed show the economy and health care are the issues of top concern. But then Herron goes off the deep end by claiming women are more concerned with the manufactured “Benghazi scandal” and “Sgt. Andrew Tahmooressi” than abortion and birth control.

For realsies? I doubt 1 in 100 Colorado voters have even heard of the sergeant, and Benghazi does not even appear on the radar screen. I’m surprised she didn’t add Obama’s birth certificate and alien abductions to her list. See for instance the Quinnipiac poll at http://www.quinnipiac.edu/news-and-events/quinnipiac-university-poll/colorado/release-detail?ReleaseID=2034.

In the Tancrazy paranoid xenophobic far-right bubble Herron resides in, fringe concerns may trump the assault on women's rights including reproductive choice. Out here in the real world, things look different. Come visit us some time, Jan. You might enjoy it. But please leave your tin hat behind.
