THIS IS THE NINETEENTH ANNUAL “Welcome Back, Y’all” column, with muh recommendations for scarfin’ grub within walking distance, or not more than a short ride from the state capitol. All are open for lunch ‘ceptin where noted otherwise.
“I’ll bet what motivated the British to colonize so much of the world is that they were just looking for a decent meal.” — Martha Harrison
“I would like to find a stew that will give me heartburn immediately,
OPENING AT THE SITE OF THE FORMER Black-eyed Pea in Lakewood is the 66th stand-alone Chick-fil-A store slated to open this year. Nationally, there are, at this writing more than 1523 stores in 38 states. This will be the 920th stand-alone store. This will be the first stand-alone store in Lakewood. In addition, there are 336 mall stores (including Southwest Plaza), and 214 license locations (universities, colleges, airports, etc.). That’s a growth trend to scare some financial planner but not the folks at Chick-fil-A.
TIME SURE DOES FLY WHEN YOU’RE HAVING FUN, and I can’t think of anything more fun than going to the seventh annual Italian Food and Wine Festival to be held at Belmar in Lakewood from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday and Sunday, September 11 and 12. This is a week earlier than prior years. Note that there is always lotsa free parking.

“Scientists tell us we are what we eat. Nuts must be more common in diets than we thought.” — Unknown
GET READY, ONE AND ALL, FOR THE 2010 COLORADO STATE FAIR! All you Denverites, Lakewoodonians, Arvadites, Wheat Ridgers, Golden Oldies, Evergreenies, Pagosanians, Fremontonians and all the rest of you Coloradans — even those from the Peoples Republic of Boulder — drive down/up/across to Pueblo and visit the funnest fair of ‘em all. I really do luv the state fair. In its 138th year, the state fair runs eleven days, from Friday, August 27 thru Monday, September 6 (Labor Day). G and I haven’t decided which of our six perfect grandchildren we’re taking this year, but rest assured we’ll be there, exhausted after about two hours. And staying about eight hours.

COME ONE, COME ALL, TO THE VERY FIRST “Affair on the Square”… and as their PR department labels it, “Denver’s first premier al fresco dining experience.” When you look at what’s for dinner, you’ll probably agree with “premier.”
BOSS JODY SEZ it’s time for the state assemblies of both the Democrats and the Republicans, and with so many burning issues, I thought I’d list some you might find suitable to your dining needs. While I have eaten at some of them, the rest of the list was furnished by a variety of trusted former friends. If the place ain’t there anymore, sorry. This northern burb has grown by leaps and bounds since the county incorporated itself and the metro area has run out of land room. If you find something that you really like, from my list or not, lemme know. TanQ
