By Marianne Goodland The battle over tax exemptions got new life on Tuesday, when a Senate committee approved a bill to provide tax credits for businesses that hire laid-off workers. Senate Bill 133 is sponsored by Sens. Rollie Heath, D-Boulder, and Chris Romer, D-Denver, and by Rep. Joe Rice, D-Littleton. The bill would provide a short-term credit on federal insurance contributions (FICA) for businesses that re-hire their own laid-off workers. Senate approves tax exemption repeal bills

By Marianne Goodland With a March 1 deadline fast approaching, the House Finance Committee Wednesday night gave its blessing to Senate Bill 1, the bill to bring the pension plan of the Public Employees’ Retirement Association (PERA) to full funded status. The 8-3 vote had the support of the committee’s six Democrats as well as Rep. Ellen Roberts, R-Durango, and Rep. Ken Summers, R-Lakewood. |
